ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has asked its Zimbabwe counterpart to play a Twenty20 series against the green-shirts rather than One Day Internationals (ODIs) in August.
"The PCB doesn't want to upset the team's ODI's ranking, therefore, it has requested the Zimbabwe Cricket to instead play a Twenty20 series," a PCB official told APP Friday.
He said in case of ODIs, it would only be one-on-one basis and and West Indies would not be included in it.
It may be added West Indies was also invited to play a tri-series when Pakistan was supposed to visit Zimbabwe for a reciprocal visit in August. The official said if the series could no be held in August then the Zimbabwe Cricket would be asked to organize it at some other time.
Pakistan currently stand at eighth position with 90 points while West Indies are at ninth on the International Cricket Council's ODI team rankings. If West Indies did not play a series, then Pakistan clearly qualifies for the 2017 Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in England.
