imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah handed over the compensation cheques of Rs 97.730 millions to 220 affectees of Timber Market fire incident at a ceremony held here on Thursday.

The cheques of Rs 86.084 million were given to 151 commercial offices/ shops while Rs 11.646 million cheques were distributed among 69 residential affectees.

Provincial ministers Jam Mehtab Dahar, Jawaid Ahmed Nagori, Special Assistants to CM Rashid Rabbani, Waqar Mehdi, leaders of business community Siraj Kassam Teli, President KCCI Iftikhar Vohra, President Timber Market Association Suleman Soomro, Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Siddiqui, Additional IG Sindh Police Ghulam Qadir Thebo were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that he has fulfilled his commitment which he made with the affectee at the time of the incident at Timber Market.

He said that with the consultation of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Timber Market Association (TMA) a committee had been constituted to conduct survey and submit the report in three phases including financial assistance of immediate nature, financial assistance to compensate the material and business loss and thirdly financial assistance on account of damage of shops and buildings.

He said that first two phases have been completed and now we have followed the recommendations of the committee.

He directed the committee to complete the survey report of the third phase about damage to shops and buildings and assured that his government will follow the recommendations as it did earlier.
