imageMULTAN: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Thursday that sit-ins in the federal capital were a conspiracy to keep Pakistan entangled in energy crisis and damage the national economy.

Addressing the flood victims at a relief camp at Mochipura Bund in Tehsil Shujabad, 35 kilometres away from Multan city, the CM questioned the heartless attitude of Dharna leaders towards the plight of the flood affected people.

Shahbaz said the government would not leave the flood-hit people alone till their complete rehabilitation to enable them stand on their feet and return to normal life.

The first instalment of assistance would be provided to the people before Eidul Azha, he announced. He said that he would personally oversee the process of loss assessment and payment of compensation to the people so that only the deserving get relief.

He said that while the people were facing worst floods since 1973 losing their lives, homes, cattle heads and other belongings the sit-in participants in the federal capital were

enjoying music and dance.

The CM said the whole conspiracy stands exposed adding that Dharna leaders had met in London and the events that followed can make people understand what sit-ins had done for them. Unfortunately, the people trumpeting new Pakistan claims and giving references from Quran and Hadith were staging sit-ins in Islamabad which had led to the postponement of Chinese President's visit.

The important visit was meant to signing of agreements to enhance our capacity to generate power and enable industrial sector operate with full potential, CM said.

Sit-ins had harmed the interests of the country and Chinese President Xi Jinping was now visiting to India he said and added that even enemies do not resort to such acts.

He said that PTI leaders should at least have taken into account over 30 seats they had won in the elections but the sufferings of the flood hit people, it seems, was not enough to awaken their compassion for the needy.

Shahbaz said that the flood hit people would be compensated for all their losses and they would also be provided seed and fertilizers free of charge.

The CM heaped praise on elected representatives of the people, the Armed Forces, Rescue 1122, administration, irrigation, revenue and other departments for their active participation in rescue and relief operations in the flood hit areas.

The minister for prisons Chaudhry Abdul Waheed Arain, MNA Javed Ali Shah, MPAs Tahir Shabbir and others were also present.
