imageKARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqi has said that a walk will be organized to mark the White Cane Day to highlight the significance of the day for blind.

This was decided in a meeting with a delegation of Pakistan Association of Blind (PAB), which called on him at the Commissioner Office here, said a statement on Monday.

The delegation informed the Commissioner about its activities for the betterment and welfare of the blind.

They said that around 22 blind persons have got employment due to training programs organised by the Association. A program is also underway to impart education to the blind, they added.

The statement said that the White Cane Day is observed on October 15, every year, to highlight the problems which are being confronted by the blind.

The Commissioner Karachi assured full cooperation to the blind people for resolution of their problems.

He called upon the drivers, conductors and personnel of police, traffic police, Pakistan Railways, PIA and other segments of the society to take all possible steps to facilitate the blind persons.

President of the PAB, Mubarak Shah, General Secretary Prof. Saleem Qasim and others were also present.
