ISLAMABAD: The current telecom sector revenues of around Rs. 580 billion are expected to increase Rs. 800 billion in the next five years.
These revenues are also expected to touch Rs. 1200 billion mark by 2025 and this increase will be dominated by contribution through mobile broadband.
As estimated by consultants working with Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications, the auction of 3G/4G spectrum has already contributed to national exchequer and national economy as the government has achieved Rs. 122 billion (including tax) against the budgetary target of Rs. 120 billion through this auction.
Moreover, with deployment of 3G/4G, job opportunities in telecom sector will be created and as per a report 0.9 million jobs are expected to be created after with launch of 3G services in next five years.
These include both direct jobs in telecommunication sector as well as indirect jobs in ICT sector pertaining to content and application development. Also, new avenues of entrepreneurship are expected to mature.
It is mentioned here that 3G is a third generation of mobile broadband technology which offers data rates starting from 144 kbps while 4G is the fourth generation of mobile broadband technology which is based on Internet Protocol (IP).
It supports peak data rates of 100 Mbps (during high mobility) and to 1.0 Gbps (in stationary mode).
