ISLAMABAD: Diamer-Bhasha Dam project on River Indus is a "lifeline" for national economy, producing cheaper electricity and saving $2.216 billion annually.
The dam will go a long way in meeting country's future agricultural and electricity requirements.
Talking to APP on Friday, a spokesman of Ministry of Water and Power said Diamer-Basha Dam has three important objectives,including flood control, power generation and storage of water.
He said the gigantic project will generate 4500 megawatts electricity and store the water to meet the country's growing power and irrigation needs. The reservoir has the capacity to store 6.4MAF and will save $0.63 billion.
He said the dam will also enhance life of the Tarbela Dam by over thirty five years.
