imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information, Archives and Local Government, Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that water hydrants closed in the larger interest of citizens of Karachi will not be restored.

Responding to a strike call given by water tankers association in the metropolis the minister on Wednesday said they should avoid becoming partners to the mafia involved in stealing water.

He said that action will also be taken against the water hydrants that have not been closed till date and that all illegal connections would be removed within seven days.

The minister for local government warned that action, including confiscation of vehicles, will also be taken against water tankers supplying hazardous, industrial water to the residential consumers.

Sharjeel Inam Memon rejecting demand made by Karachi Water Tankers Association to review the government decision of closing water hydrants in the city, said this was pre-requisite to ensure regular and proper supply of potable water to the citizens paying diligently their taxes and all relevant dues.

"They can not be penalized due to interest of a particular group that has also indulged violating rules and regulations," said the minister.

The minister said hydrants operational round the clock were also causing colossal loss to KWSB in particular context of dwindling revenue collection that has resulted in severe financial crunch.
