imageKARACHI: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali announced that a targeted operation would be launched in Karachi in a couple of days.

Flanked by Chief Minister Shah and Governor Ishratul Ebad, the Interior Minister said that law enforcement agencies would crackdown on extortionists, kidnappers, target killers and other criminals.

The Interior Minister said Rangers would lead the targeted action and police will have supporting roles. He said Federal and Provincial Governments have issued necessary guidelines to empower Rangers and remove its concerns.

A Committee‚ led by Chief Minister Sindh and having representation from Federal, Provincial institutions concerned and intelligence agencies would oversee‚ manage‚ administer and control the action.

The Committee will meet at least once a week to review the situation and take necessary decisions.

Another operational committee headed by Director-General Rangers would meet daily and take necessary decisions.

The Minister said there should be no doubt that the action would be under the leadership of the provincial chief minister as he has the mandate of the people.

He said in case the Federal Government bypasses the provincial government or doesn't take MQM on board then there would be a political tussle and the real issue of law and order in Karachi would not be addressed satisfactorily.

Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said that the Federal Cabinet and high level meetings in Karachi took several decisions and some of them would not be made public as it could compromise the action against criminals. He‚ however‚ said these decisions would be visible when the action is taken.
