Govt taking measures to meet energy needs: Qaimkhani

ISLAMABAD: Member National Assembly of Pakistan Peoples Party, Amina Sadaat Qaimkhani on Saturday said that present government is taking special interest in the energy sector to meet the growing demand of the consumers of this country.

She appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari for making Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project with success.

Talking to Pakistan Television, she said that the government is taking measures to resolve the energy crisis in the country.

She said that fluctuation in the petroleum prices was directly linked with the prices in the international market.

Replying to a question, she said "The government is paying foreign currency to the companies involved in the drilling and exploration of gas and petroleum products."

PPP MNA said that hike in petroleum prices was also linked with dollar.

Replying to another question, she said the people are facing problems due to weak policies of the past regimes.

She said that there was need to take proper action in formulating the policies for exploring gas and petroleum products.

Qaimkhani said that present government was making all-out efforts to produce gas and electricity products so that the people could enjoy the facilities without facing any difficulties.

Parliamentary Secretary on Petroleum Rukhsana Butter said that there was serious need to take solid measures for meeting future demands in the energy sector. She said that the government was also not happy over price hike in the petroleum sector.

She said that there was need to expedite works for exploring, drilling and digging gas and petroleum so that the essential products could be made possible for public.

She said that the people involved in the drilling process must be provided proper facilities like peaceful environment in the exploring areas.
