KARACHI: Four ships C.V Michaelas, C.V CMA CGM Amber, M.T Chembulk Singapore and M.V Julian carrying containers, chemicals and iron ore were berthed at Qasim International Container Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and iron ore and coal berth respectively at Port Qasim here on Thursday morning, port sources said Friday.
Two more ships M.V Mercy Wisdom and M.T STX Eastern scheduled to load/ offload wheat and chemicals also arrived at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.
Forty three percent berth occupancy was reported at the Port on Thursday where six ships namely C.V Michaelas, C.V CMA CGM Amber, M.T Chembulk Singapore, M.V Julian, M.T Akaki are currently occupying PQA berths to load/ offload containers, chemicals, iron ore, palm oil and furnace oil.
Cargo handling registered on upward trend at the Port where a cargo volume of 101,318 tonnes, comprising 80,741 tonnes imports and 20,577 tonnes exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 2,703 containers (1,620 imports and 1,083 exports TEUs) were handled at the Port during the last 24 hours.
Three ships, viz containers ship 'CMA CGM Amber,' chemicals carrier 'Chembulk Singapore' and edible oil ship 'DL Ace' sailed out to sea on Friday morning and another containership 'Michaelas, is expected to sail on the same day.
M.T STX Eastern carrying 10,030 tonnes chemicals is expected to take berth at Engro Terminal on Friday, while two more ships C.V MSC Sierra-II and M.T Karachi with containers and furnace oil are due to arrive at Port Qasim on the same day, and C.V Cape Flores and M.T Liberty-N are due to arrive on Saturday.
