Romania inflation quickens to 6.0 pct y/y in Jan

BUCHAREST: Romania's annual inflation quickened to 6.0 percent year-on-year in January from December's 5.0 percent, driven by rising electricity prices, data from the National Statistics Board showed on Tuesday.

A Reuters poll of 14 analysts expected inflation at 5.4 percent year-on-year in January.

Consumer prices rose 1.3 percent on the month. Food and non-food prices were up 1.2 percent and 2.0 percent, respectively, while services fell 0.1 percent from December.

The central bank forecasts inflation at 3.5 percent in December.
