The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Thursday paid tributes to former PM Nawaz Sharif as the party celebrated 'Youm-e-Takbeer' commemorating the historic day of conducting nuclear tests in 1998.
The PML-N held a function here at the PML-N Secretariat which was addressed by the party leaders including Shehbaz Sharif, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Rana Sanaullah and others.
The speakers in their speeches said Nawaz Sharif got nuclear tests conducted setting aside all external pressures to make the country defence invincible. After the tests were conducted successfully, Pakistan became the seventh nation in the world to possess nuclear weapons and the first Islamic country to do so.
While addressing a Youm-e-Takbeer event via video link, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif urged the people and national institutions to work together to save the country from an economic crisis.
"We need to offer special prayers and ask Allah to give us courage," he said. "Together we will strengthen Pakistan's economy." He blamed the PTI government for the economic crisis in the country and said thousands of people have lost their jobs because of the government's economic policies. Before the start of Corona pandemic, the country's economy had collapsed due to policies of the PTI government. "We should not do politics in such a difficult time but the nation needs to be told the truth," he added.
The PML-N president claimed that his brother had declined offers from friends and foes in 1998 and made Pakistan a nuclear power. "We should offer special prayers for his health," Shehbaz said. The PML-N President said we can overcome economic challenges through unity and collective efforts. "There was an opportunity of national unity but the incumbent government lost it due to stubbornness of one man."
Rana Sanaullah said the PML-N served the country and the countrymen wholeheartedly but it was always given a difficult time. Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the PML-N leadership always preferred national interests and served the country devotedly.
On the occasion, PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz in her message said, "Salute to Nawaz Sharif as no complexity and no sacrifice could come in his way to serve the nation and none will God willing shall become an obstacle in his endeavours."
She added that Youm-e-Takbeer reminds us every year of Sharif's allegiance to the land; the tale that started with loyalties and culminates with fake sentences.
"Ask each and every atom of the land and every drop of flowing waters of the rivers that it was who, decorated this orchard, made the frontiers and airs of the country invincible. And it was who, after sacrificing everything is still honouring his commitments with the nation and will continue to do so," Maryam added.
