After the killing of top Iranian commander General Qassem Soleimani the Iranian people showed unity among their rank and file, said Pakistan's former ambassador in Iran Najamuddin Shaikh on Saturday. He was speaking to the members of Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) held at PIIA library here.

He described the US as a biggest enemy in Middle East itself". He said the US had sold arms to GCC countries worth of $46 billion in 2017 to 2019 year. He said, "Iran has given a strong message to the US by carrying out counter attacks on US installations in Iraq".

"Iran has made a conscious decisions after America killed his top commander in drone strike", he added. He said, "Iraq has become a battleground of international powers besides Iran has gained a degree of influence in Iran".

"If turmoil in Iraq increases it will give create more rooms for terror organizations like ISIS", he maintained. Consul General of Iran in Karachi, Ahmed Mohammadi said that General Soleimani was assassinated by the US drone attack when he was on peace mission in Iraq. "Soleimani was not in a battlefield, he went to Iraq to meet top government officials", he added.

He said assassination of General Soleimani has united the Iranian people as millions of people attended his funeral. Soleimani's murder, he said, also unveiled that America is not a trustworthy, adding that ISIS has welcomed the assassination of Gen Soleimani.

A research scholar Raza Naeem lambasted the killing of General Soleimani. He said the Iranian government has strongly retaliated to the US by carrying out attacks on the US bases in Iraq.
