A resolution was submitted in the National Assembly Secretariat Saturday for recommending Nobel Peace Prize for Prime Minister Imran Khan for playing laudable role in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India. According to sources, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain is likely to move a resolution in the National Assembly on Monday (tomorrow) for passage.
The minister submitted a resolution in the National Assembly Secretariat that Prime Minister Imran Khan be given Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to peace in the region. However, any cabinet member can move the resolution any time in the House after permission of the chair (speaker) without submitting a resolution in the National Assembly Secretariat.
According to the sources, the resolution said that the Prime Minister played a sagacious role in de-escalating tension between Pakistan and India which was created due to the warmongering attitude of Indian leadership. It noted that the aggression manifested by the Indian leadership had brought the two nuclear states to the brink of war, endangering the lives of tens of millions of people on both sides of the border.
The resolution said that this situation was averted due to proactive and deft handling of the situation by Prime Minister Imran Khan. The Prime Minister should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts towards peace, it added.
After passing the resolution, the National Assembly Secretariat would refer the resolution to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ministry would send the resolution to Norwegian Nobel Committee.
According to Nobel's will, the Peace Prize shall be awarded to the person who in the preceding year "shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
Each year, the Norwegian Nobel Committee specifically invites qualified people to submit nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize. Prime Minister Imran Khan, in his address to a joint session of Parliament on Thursday last, announced to release Wing Commander Abhinandan as a gesture of peace and goodwill towards India.
Journalists, diplomats and the common public admired Imran Khan's brave and bold move in the favour of maintaining peace in the region and possibly avoiding an all-out war with India, the consequences of which could be disastrous. The sources said that an online petition was filed moving the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for the "Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 for his peace efforts and dialogues in the Asian region on diverse conflicts (e.g. Pakistan-India, Afghanistan-USA, Middle East, etc)." Meanwhile, the National Assembly on Monday is likely to pass the "Finance Supplementary (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019" after winding up debate on it by Finance Minister Asad Umar, it is learnt. According to the sources, the National Assembly is most likely to pass the Bill on Monday after discussing recommendations of the Senate on it and winding up debate.
