Twisted garden skyscraper might be Australia’s next tallest building

Australia has unveiled plans for a tall, twisting skyscraper that might be the country’s tallest building till yet.

Australia unveiled its plans for a tree-covered, twisted skyscraper building for the city of Melbourne named ‘Green Spine’ with vertical green space and a public rooftop garden.

Set to be at a height of 1,168ft, the building is designed by a collaboration of Dutch architecture company ‘UNStudio’ along with Melbourne-based ‘Cox Architecture’. The structure is made up of two buildings clad with vertical gardens and geometric glass facades, as described by Mashable.

On top there will be ‘Future Botanic Garden’, a public garden that will be available for everyone, regardless of whether someone is a resident or not. The tallest tower will serve as a residential building, whereas the smaller one, around 827ft high, will contain commercial offices, a hotel, bars and restaurants.

The lower levels of both the towers will house commercial spaces including a cinema, library, vertical school, auditorium, daycare, BMW showroom and marketplace as well. Flaunted as a ‘vertical city of green spaces’, Green Spine’s USD1.4 billion development will have a series of stairs and stepped terraces for providing pedestrian connection at street level, wrote The Guardian.

Set to pioneer in 2020, the building will break the record currently held by the 1,058gt high Gold Coast.
