LAHORE: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Punjab Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Sohail Shaukat Butt said that the Social Welfare Department is actively implementing the vision of Punjab government.

He stated that women’s protection and empowerment remain a top priority of the Punjab government, and under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, practical initiatives are being implemented across the province.

The minister highlighted that 32,242 deserving women with disabilities are receiving financial support through the Himmat Card programme, under which each beneficiary receives a monthly stipend of Rs 10,500, providing vital relief to thousands of households.

He further said that under the Dhee Rani Programme, arrangements are being made for the dignified marriages of 5,000 deserving daughters, with each bride receiving a financial package of Rs 200,000.

Sohail Shaukat Butt added that 10,582 women facing difficult circumstances are being supported through helplines and shelter homes, while 217 women have so far been provided accommodation and rehabilitation in Women Transition Homes.

He also noted that through Sanatzar Centres, 38,093 women have been provided vocational training to help them become economically independent.

He reaffirmed that the Punjab government will continue to strengthen its efforts to ensure women’s rights, protection, and empowerment.
