Eid-ul-Fitr 2026: No chance of moon sighting on March 19, says PMD

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that the sighting of the Shawwal 1447 AH moon is highly unlikely on the evening of Thursday, March 19.
According to astronomical analysis, the new moon is expected to be born at 06:23 PST on March 19. However, by the time of sunset, the moon’s age will be between 12 and 13 hours across most meteorological observatories in the country. This duration is insufficient for the crescent to be visible to the naked eye.
The Met Office clarified that as there is “no chance” of sighting the moon on the 29th of Ramadan (March 19), Eid-ul-Fitr is most likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, following the completion of a 30-day fasting month.
While these astronomical calculations provide a scientific forecast, the department reminded the public that the final and official declaration regarding the sighting of the moon rests solely with the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
