ISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) for the week ending February 12 recorded a decline of 0.59 percent, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Friday.
The decrease was primarily driven by reductions in the prices of several essential commodities.
The FBS data revealed the significant reduction in the prices of eggs 17.61 percent, tomatoes 12.02 percent, chicken 6.34 percent, onions 2.73 percent, potatoes 2.49 percent, salt powder 1.69 percent, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) 1.57 percent, wheat flour 1.31 percent and sugar 1.12 percent.
As per data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS) here on Friday, the prices of certain commodities increased on week to week basis with bananas 7.62 percent, garlic 4.35 percent, pulse mash 2.69 percent, chilies powder 1.68 percent, mutton 0.80 percent, beef 0.37 percent, mustard oil 0.34 percent, shirting 0.31 percent, cigarettes 0.24 percent, vegetable ghee 1Kg 0.08 percent, georgette 0.02 percent and lawn printed 0.01 percent.
During the week, out of 51 items, prices of 15 items which is 29.41 percent of the basket witnessed an increase, prices of 15 items which is 29.41 percent of the SPI basket witnessed a reduction, and prices of the 21 items which is 41.18 percent of the basket remained stable.
However, according to PBS on year on year (YoY) basis, the SPI witnessed an increase of 4.26 percent. On YoY basis major increase was observed in the prices of tomatoes 73.36 percent, wheat flour 33.82 percent, and gas charges for Q1 29.85 percent, chilies powder 15.20 percent, beef 12.70 percent, eggs 11.76 percent, bananas 11.67 percent, firewood 11.40 percent, LPG 10.73 percent, powdered milk 9.89 percent, shirting 8.82 percent and Gur 8.81 percent.
The PBS data said that on YoY basis a reduction in the prices of following items was observed: Potatoes 44.68 percent, garlic 30.78 percent, pulse gram 23.81 percent, onions 22.04 percent, chicken 20.13 percent, tea Lipton 13.95 percent, salt powder 12.52 percent, pulse masoor 10.88 percent and petrol 1.33 percent.
The SPI for consumption groups up to Rs17,732 with a reduction of 0.62 percent recorded at 322.23 points against 324.23 points recorded in the previous week. The SPI for the consumption group of Rs17,732 to 22,888 witnessed a decline of 0.62 percent was recorded at 322.60 against 324.61 points registered in the past week.
The SPI for the consumption group with monthly income of Rs22,889 to 29,517 witnessed a decrease of 0.59 percent recorded at 344.30 points against 346.33 points recorded in the preceding week and SPI for consumption group with monthly income of Rs29,518 to Rs44,175 declined by 0.62 percent recorded at 331.13 points against 333.20 points recorded in the past week.
The SPI for the consumption group with monthly income of Rs44,175 and above witnessed a reduction of 0.58 percent recorded at 330.23 points against 332.15 points reported in the previous week.
