Engro Corporation Saturday held a ceremony to celebrate and recognise the accomplishments of three eminent Pakistanis chosen as the recipients of Engro Excellence Award 2012. The awards were developed, as annual reward for the people of Pakistan. The recipients this year were Dr Adeeb Rizvi for social and humanitarian services, Dr Hafeez A. Pasha for Social Sciences and Shahid Sajjad for Arts.
Dr Ishrat Hussain, chairman of the jury said, "I am extremely delighted that Engro Corporation has taken this noble initiative to recognise the services of eminent Pakistanis who have excelled and made outstanding contribution in their respective fields. The enthusiastic response we have received shows that the people of Pakistan want efforts of other Pakistanis who have made a difference, acknowledged and recognised in front of the world."
Asad Umer, president and CEO of Engro Corporation in his speech said, "The success of the first Engro Excellence Awards encourages us to build on the promise of enabling excellence in the country year on year. These awards are a testament to the excellence of Pakistanis who need to be actively promoted as role models for our youth. Our country has a bright future and I believe, as individuals, it is our responsibility to promote the positive aspects of the country to the world." Engro Excellence Awards and its ceremony were developed to redefine the standards for excellence to honour Pakistan's finest talent. The awards ended on a high note with live performance to celebrate the occasion.
The process of determining nominees and winners for awards was carried out by an independent jury comprising seven Pakistan's most esteemed personalities, each of whom is considered a symbol of excellence in their relevant fields. Dr Ishrat Hussain, chairman of the jury was assisted by Dr Iqbal Choudhary, Dr Nafis Sadiq, Professor Anita Ghulam Ali, Iftikhar Arif, Ms Nasreen Kasuri and Ms Noor Jehan Bilgrami. The recipients were selected, based on lifetime of accomplishments and excellence in their respective fields and were presented an Engro Excellence Medallion as well as a cash prize of Rs five million each.
