‘Innovation hub’ launched to tackle power sector challenges

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Energy (Power Division) has officially launched Pakistan’s first National Power Sector Innovation Program, with Innovation Hub serving as the program’s dedicated digital platform.

The National Power Sector Innovation Programme marks a significant step towards establishing a national institutional framework for innovation in Pakistan’s power sector.

Through the Innovation Hub digital platform, the Programme will connect young talent, researchers, universities, startups, industry and experts to develop practical and innovative solutions to the country’s energy challenges.

The Programme aims to identify, evaluate, mentor and support promising ideas, transforming innovative concepts and research into tested, scalable solutions that can contribute to a more efficient, reliable and sustainable power sector. Under the Programme, more than Rs. 1 billion will be allocated over the next three years for mentorship, technical assistance, pilot implementation and scaling of successful innovations.

Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari said on this occasion that the world is changing rapidly, driven by artificial intelligence, digitalization, emerging technologies and new business models. “Our power sector therefore needs not only greater effort, but greater innovation, creative thinking and continuous improvement.

The National Power Sector Innovation Programme is not merely a competition; it is the first national institutional framework of its kind for the power sector, designed to identify, evaluate, mentor and support innovative ideas and transform them into practical solutions,” he added.

He further stated that young Pakistanis are invited to participate in the National Power Sector Innovation Programme and bring forward innovative ideas that can help address the challenges facing Pakistan’s power sector. Through the Innovation Hub digital platform, aspiring innovators, students, researchers, startups and young professionals can submit their ideas and become part of a national effort to shape the future of energy in the country.
