imageHYDERABAD: The Sindh Agriculture department Wednesday notified the official procurement rate of sugarcane as well as the date of starting the cane crushing season in the province.

According to the separate notifications issued by the provincial secretary agriculture, Saeed Ahmed Mangnejo, Rs 182 per 40 kilograms had been fixed of crop for crushing season 2016-17 as per the Sugar Factories Control Act, 1950.

The notification further directs sugar factories in the province to pay quality premium to sugarcane growers at the end of the crushing season 2016-17 at the rate of Rs.0.50 per 40 kg.

In another notification, the Secretary Agriculture announced commencement of current crushing season from November 15, 2016.

Meanwhile, the Sindh Cane Commissioner Agha Zaheeruddin Khan has notified the renewed transportation rates here. According to the new fare list, the transporters would be paid Rs.7.83 per 40 kg for a distance of between 1 to 10 miles, Rs.9.47 for 11 to 15 miles, Rs.10.63 for 16 to 20 miles, Rs.11.84 for 21 to 25 miles and a maximum of Rs.22.67 per 40 kg for 66 to 70 miles.

The notification pointed out that the transportation charges in 2015-16 were fixed on the basis of Rs 86 per liter price of diesel fuel which had lowered at present to Rs 74 per liter.

"The haulage rates will be re-fixed after Rs 5 per liter increase or decrease in price of diesel," it added.
