imageWashing clothes seems to become a thing of the past, because in coming days sunlight will be used to clean off your clothes, ending all yours washing woes.

Yes, its true all one would need is sunlight that could even be a light bulb to clean their clothes, all thanks to scientists that have developed a low-cost and efficient way to grow nanostructures on textiles, which can degrade organic matter when exposed to light.

According to Economic Times, the developed process was carried out by the researchers at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia."There's more work to do before we can start throwing out our washing machines, but this advance lays a strong foundation for the future development of fully self-cleaning textiles," said researcher Rajesh Ramanathan.

The latest process developed can be used in a number of ways for catalysis-based industries such as agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and natural products. “The advantage of textiles is they already have a 3D structure so they are great at absorbing light, which in turn speeds up the process of degrading organic matter,” Ramanathan said.

According to News Nation, the major challenge for researchers is to bring the concept out of the labs and work out how to build these nanostructures on an industrial scale and then attach them permanently to textiles.
