imageISLAMABAD: Former fast bowler Jalal-ud-Din on Thursday said that International Cricket Council's (ICC) decision to allow Mohammad Amir to return to domestic cricket under the auspices of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was a first step towards the fast bowler's return to the international cricket.

"It was Amir's right to be allowed to play again. But I think there are still several challenges he has to face before making a comeback to the international arena," he told APP.

Amir, who alongwith former captain Salman Butt and fast bowler Mohammad Asif was banned for spot-fixing during Pakistan's tour of England in 2010, was given an early reprieve on Thursday by ICC for a return to domestic cricket.

Jalal-ud-Deen said that Amir's return to domestic cricket could help him earn a space in the national team once again although it did not seem possible in near future.

"Although he is highly talented player, he will have to show performance in the domestic cricket before making a come back to international cricket," he added.

Jalal, who became the first bowler to take a hat-trick in ODI cricket, playing against Australia at Niaz Stadium, Hyderabad on 20 September 1982, also said that facing public would be another challenge for Amir and for that he should be strong mentally.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Amir has expressed happiness at the ICC decision and thanked PCB for making efforts for his return to domestic cricket. He said that Chairman PCB always cooperated with him while his family too remained supportive throughout his banned period. "Now I'll fully focus on my game and fitness," he said.
