Already suffering from dismal demand, the woes of Pakistan’s auto sector worsened o back of coronavirus lockdowns, after the industry suffered the worst month for car sales in April 2020.

As per the latest data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), zero auto sales were witnessed in the month of April.

The Big Three i.e. Honda, Suzuki, and Toyota failed to register even a single sale in April on the back of lockdowns imposed by both federal and provincial governments across the country to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Overall, car production and sales registered a 52 percent decline on a year-on-year basis to 85,330 units from 177,435 units in the corresponding period last year. Only 36 units of trucks and three units of buses were sold in the month of April.

The economy of Pakistan alongside the rest of countries across the world has come to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic, owing to economic lockdown put in place to stop the virus spread, which has claimed over 300,00 lives across the world with millions infected.

However, the government of Pakistan alongside other countries has decided to open up economic sectors to mitigate the impact of the virus.
