Twitter to restrict users from interacting on tweets of world leaders who break its rules

• Twitter will not allow users to like, reply, share and retweet that is not according to rules.
• Update comes after the company announced in June that it would begin labeling tweets from world leaders that violate its rules.

Twitter has decided to put some restrictions on its users from interacting with world leaders who violate its rules.

In a tweet, the social media giant said that it will not allow users to like, reply, share and retweet offending tweets from world leaders. However, the company added, that it will let users quote-tweet them so they can still express their own opinions.

"When it comes to the actions of world leaders on Twitter, we recognize that this is largely new ground and unprecedented," the company said in a statement. The statement elaborated how the company will address content from world leaders.

Behaviors including promoting terrorism, direct threats of violence against an individual, sharing private information, engaging in child sexual exploitation and encouraging or promoting self-harm could force Twitter to take action.

We haven’t used this notice yet, but when we do, you will not be able to like, reply, share, or Retweet the Tweet in question. You will still be able to express your opinion with Retweet with Comment.

"Our goal is to enforce our rules judiciously and impartially. In doing so, we aim to provide direct insight into our enforcement decision-making, to serve public conversation, and protect the public’s right to hear from their leaders and to hold them to account," Twitter said on its handle.

Earlier in June, Twitter announced new rules after it received widespread criticism over failing to take action on tweets from US President Donald Trump and other leaders who violated its policies. The company said it will start labeling tweets from influential government officials who violates its rules.
