CHICAGO: Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures closed higher Tuesday on concerns about tightening global supplies, traders said.
CBOT December soft red winter wheat settled up 4-1/4 cents at $5.10-1/2 per bushel.
K.C. December hard red winter wheat ended up 3-1/4 cents at $5.16 a bushel and MGEX December spring wheat rose 5 cents at $5.80-1/4.
Traders continue to mull the impact of possible frost damage over the weekend in western Australia.
Additional support noted from news that Russia's agriculture ministry projected 2018/19 wheat exports at 30 million tonnes, below the US Department of Agriculture's last estimate of 35 million.
The USDA late Monday said the US 2019 winter wheat crop was 13 percent planted, near the five-year average of 14 percent.
The US spring wheat harvest was 97 percent complete, the USDA said.
Shortly after the CBOT close, traders said Egypt's state grains buyer GASC bought 180,000 tonnes of wheat for shipment over Nov. 1-10 and a further 295,000 tonnes for shipment over Nov. 11-20.
