IPL the reason behind Pakistan’s T20 success: Pakistan former skipper

Pakistan former captain and legendary fast bowler Waqar Younis believes that non-participation of Pakistani players in Indian Premier League (IPL) has allowed the side to become the top ranked T20 team in the world.

"The reason why our team is number one in T20Is is because our guys don't participate in IPL," said Younis, while talking to local media.

The former captain was of the view that the non-participation of Pakistani cricketers in the world’s most powerful Twenty20 tournament has kept them ‘down to earth’ and they concentrate on playing international cricket, rather than drawing towards huge IPL contracts.

"The priority now is IPL, where a cricketer can earn $2 million…. Because of not playing IPL, our boys are down to earth and they want to play international cricket," said Younis.

"When a kid starts to play cricket, he doesn’t do it thinking he will earn millions. Instead he does that because of his love for cricket," he added.

Earlier, the top ranked T20I side Pakistan cruised to a 3-0 series win against visitors the West Indies, after the hosts outclassed them by eight wickets in the third T20I on Tuesday.
