Italy's Draghi expects economy to jump, looks to bet on ‘good debt’

"We will have a very strong economic rebound in the coming months and will then have to settle on a path, on a level of growth, that will allow us to free ourselves of the high debt," Draghi told a news conference.
"We are issuing and will (continue to) issue debt. The point is that this debt must be invested well ... it is a bet on good debt," he said.

Biden administration to invest $1.7bn to fight COVID-19 variants

"The original strain of COVID-19 comprises only about half of all cases in America today. New and potentially dangerous strains of the virus make up the other half," the White House said in a statement.
The White House also offered a state-by-state breakdown of the funds with California receiving over $17 million, Texas over $15 million and Florida over $12 million.

US panel to meet again next week to discuss pause on J&J's COVID-19 shot

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advisory panel will meet on April 23, according to a notice posted on the regulator's website.
US health regulators recommended earlier this week that use of the J&J vaccine be paused after reports of six cases of rare brain blood clots in women.

There were 1 in 480 people infected in the week ending April 10, according to the latest figures, down from 1 in 340 infected the week before.
"Our modelling suggests that the percentage of people testing positive in England decreased in the week ending 10 April 2021," the ONS said.

The deal to produce Sputnik V - for export rather than domestic use - is the second in South Korea and comes after biotech firm GL Rapha signed a deal late last year to make more than 150 million doses of the vaccine per year.
Huons said on Friday its consortium will begin producing sample batches in August and would respond flexibly to supply demand from the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Russia's sovereign wealth fund.
