Will ‘Siyaah’ brighten Pakistani film industry?

KARACHI: Pakistani feature film “Siyaah” may give another life to the dying cinema industry of Pakistan.

The project initiated by a young talented group from Islamabad is unique for its subject as it is not a typical love story or has nothing to do with terrorism or religious intolerance but is a horror film encompassing the prevalent dilemma of black magic and its associated evils in our society.

The cast includes new talent namely, Hareem Farooq, Qazi Jabbar, Mahnoor Usman and others.

The film has been produced by Imran Raza Kazmi under the direction of Asfar Jafri, who is debuting with this film. He has done several short videos and films before Siyaah.

Islamabad’s local celebrity Osman Khalid Butt has penned the story after extensive research on the subject.

Kazmi himself did a lot of research as well in one year meeting people involved in the black magic business and witnessing some real cases to make the film more realistic and believable.

Background music and sound effects are critical in a horror film. Film’s music score has been composed by Ahmed Ali who is also new to the industry.

The project appears to be a great effort by young aspirants, however, its success will not only decide their future but also determine the direction of the local film industry. Let’s hope the best for Siyaah.

The film is scheduled to be released in October.
