Rain with dust storm likely: NDMA advises depts to remain alert

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has advised all federal and provincial departments concerned to remain alert as rains with dust thunderstorm are expected from Thursday to next Tuesday across the country.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has advised all federal and provincial departments concerned to remain alert as rains with dust thunderstorm are expected from Thursday to next Tuesday across the country.
The NDMA, while issuing weather advisory here on Thursday said that the Pakistan Metrological Department (PMDC) has predicted rains and thunderstorms across the country starting from Thursday to Tuesday.
The advisory asked all provincial departments, the NHA, the FWO and other institutions to remain alert, as the weather is "likely to remain unstable in Pakistan during Thursday night to Tuesday," the tweet added.
As per the advisory, the Meteorological Department warned of unstable weather in Punjab, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the AJK, and at a few areas of Sindh and north-east Balochistan.
The Met department predicts dust thunderstorm with rain in the KP and scattered places in Punjab (Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Okara), Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from Thursday (night) to Monday/Tuesday.
During Friday and Saturday, dust thunderstorm with rain have been predicted in Quetta, Zhob, Harnai, Barkhan, Dera Bugti, DG Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahwalnagar, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Jaccobabad, and Shaheed Benazirabad.
The Met department also expects dust thunderstorm with rain in Mirpurkhas, Badin and Hyderabad on Monday. All concerned institutions have been advised to ensure presence of staff during emergency situations. Meanwhile, the NDMA has constituted 1,127 teams to conduct locust control operation in 60 locust-affected districts of the country.
According to the spokesman, the NDMA has completed the poisonous fumes spray of over 4,200 hectare and survey of 290,000 hectare locust swarm-hit area of the country in the last 24 hours. Both aerial and ground spray of various districts was being continued right now.
Sharing details of the ongoing efforts to kill locust swarms, he said the spraying of 1,500 hectare area of Balochistan and 8,00 hectare area of Punjab have been completed in the last 24 hours.
