The incidents of carjacking, various kinds of thefts, and kidnappings have witnessed increase during the last week in the capital city, in spite of the lockdown imposed in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder, the city had witnessed a significant decrease in incidents of car theft, robbery, and snatching at gunpoint in the first three weeks of the lockdown.

But during the last week, the incidents of car lifting and various kinds of theft have shown an increase as over four cases of various kinds of theft, four cases of motor vehicle thefts and as man as five cases of kidnapping were reported to the city's different police stations.

During the last week, Shalimar Police Station registered one case each of auto theft and snatching at gunpoint.

Auto thieves stole a car bearing registration number WC-819 belonging to Aurangzeb worth Rs450,000.

Waseem lodged a complaint with Shalimar Police Station that the two unidentified persons snatched cash Rs34,000 and a mobile phone from him.

Auto thieves stole a bike bearing registration number AKR-617 belonging to Muhammad Walid worth Rs30,000 from the limits of Khanna Police Station.

Another bike was lifted bearing registration number AP-060 belonging to Athar Mehmood worth Rs60,000 from the limits of Secretariat Police Station, and took away bike bearing registration number AQP-123 belonging to Mohsin Siddique worth Rs100,000 from the limits of Industrial Area Police Station.

During the last week, Bani Gala, Shehzad Town, Sihala and Koral registered one case each of kidnapping, while Kohsar police registered one case of robbery.

The various police stations of the city registered over 50 cases against those who violated Section 144 imposed by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration to discourage gathering of people, a necessary step for containing the Covid-19.
