Ali Sethi holds a virtual concert on Instagram thanks to coronavirus

Singer Ali Sethi just became the first Pakistani artist to hold a post-pandemic online concert as musicians and listeners alike adapt to life in the time of coronavirus by adopting social distancing and staying in quarantine.

On Thursday night, Sethi hosted a thoroughly interactive hour-long concert from his bedroom on Instagram Live, in which he took requests for songs and impersonations alike. From time to time, he paused to crack jokes and reassured viewers to remain calm and look after each other.

In between hits like Dam Mast Qalandar and Lag Ja Galay, he described the experience of slowing down as "beautiful" and encouraged others to view quarantine as an opportunity to introspect.

"Please stay safe. Flatten the curve. Social distancing zindabad and virtual un-distancing zindabad."

In the comments, viewers came together to share their experience of being cooped up in quarantine and dubbed the session as "therapeutic" and "meditative".

Sethi's concert comes just a day after Sajjad Ali called for a "music revolution" on Wednesday, and artists like Chris Martin, John Legend and Miley Cyrus have already held bedroom concerts on Instagram and Facebook Live. It looks like virtual concerts are here to stay and we can't wait to see some of our favourite artists live, from our couch to theirs.
