The old Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart and veteran politician and former federal finance minister Dr Mubashir Hassan, passed away on Saturday. He was 98 and had been unwell and under treatment for the past three days. He is survived by his wife Dr Zeenat Hussain. Dr Mubashir was one of the founding members of PPP and he had contributed to the very first manifesto of the party.

He had also served as Finance Minister in the cabinet of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto has expressed deep sorrow and grief over his death, saying that the nation has been deprived of a leading intellectual and political leader. He said Dr Mubashir was a strong voice of the left in Pakistan and he was a close confidant of Zulfiqar Bhutto and an elder of the party.

He said the whole party is grieved over his death. PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira also paid tribute to Dr Mubashir for his services in different positions.
