Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Thursday chaired a consultative meeting on situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which expressed grave concern over the continued lockdown in the held valley for the last 214 days.

The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Chairman Syed Fakhar Imam, Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood and senior officers of the Foreign Office.

In his address to the meeting, Qureshi underlined the need for highlighting the prevailing tense situation in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir at all international fora.

He expressed regret that the global community had kept a mum over the massive human rights violations committed by Indian troops in the occupied valley.

He said that 214 days had passed and the worst lockdown was continuing in the occupied valley and the Kashmiri people were facing the worst Indian brutalities.

Addressing the meeting, Syed Fakhar Imam urged the world community to take notice of Indian aggression in occupied Kashmir, adding that parliaments of the various countries had expressed concern over the situation.

He also underlined the need for raising the issues on the platforms of different international think-tanks.

In his remarks, Mushahid Hussain Sayed said that Indian brutalities and atrocities in occupied Kashmir posed serious threat to regional peace and stability.

On the instruction of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Foreign minister also chaired a meeting of the media strategy committee aimed at promoting the positive image of Pakistan across the globe, the Foreign Office said.

According to a statement of the Foreign Office, the meeting was attended by Dr Shahbaz Gill, Foreign Secretary Sohail Mahmood, Principal Information Officer Mohammad Tahir Hassan, and senior officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It stated that the foreign minister told the committee that efforts should be made to highlight the positive efforts of Pakistan towards regional as well as global peace, besides highlighting the opportunities available in the country for the rest of the world.
