Press conference 'against' Justice Seth: Petition seeks contempt of court proceedings

A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday against minister for law and justice, attorney general for Pakistan, special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting and others, seeking contempt of court proceedings against them for holding a presser "against" Justice Waqar Seth, the president of special court, in the wake of verdict of the high treason case against Musharraf.

The petition filed by Shabbir Hussain Gigyani, a member of Peshawar High Court Bar Association, made Firdous Ashiq Awan, Shahzad Akbar, Farough Nasim, Fawad Choudhry, Anwar Mansoor Khan, AAJ News, Geo News, Samaa News, ARY News, Dunya News, Bol News, Express News, PTV News, Press Information Department (PID), and chairman PEMRA respondents.

Through the presser, the abovementioned government officials not only scandalized the special court judge, but also ridiculed the judiciary, he stated.

"I pray the apex court to invoke the jurisdiction of this august court conferred under Article 204 of the Constitution and initiate contempt of court proceedings against the respondents as well as the TV channels for ridiculing the judiciary and the honorable judge," he added.
