  • After much resistance, few Pakistani celebs have come in support of Jami, a rape survivor.
  • Few days back Jami revealed that he was raped 13-years ago by a 'powerful media person'.

Filmmaker Jami's #MeToo story stirred quite a debate on social media, with many supporting the filmmaker for the courage he showed about publicly opening up about such a grave incident.

After much resistance, few Pakistani celebs have also showed their support for Jami and praised him for coming up with his story. Since Jami has come forward with his #MeToo story, there has been a very strong reaction online. His detailed tweets became the headline on every leading news website and later many supported his stance when he revealed more shocking details.

#MeToo: Filmmaker Jami reveals he was raped by a ‘powerful person in media’

Actors like Meesha Shafi, Osman Khalid Butt, Armeena Khan and Mahira Khan have showed their support to Jami.

Osman in his recent tweet said, “We do not speak openly about the trauma inflicted upon us; we try suppressing the violence, the shame, the stigma – even though, as Jami says, the details remain etched in our DNA. I say ‘shame’, because in a society like ours, where sexual harassment is already under-reported, admitting that something like this happened to you makes you a lesser man”.

Meesha Shafi, who is flag bearer of #MeToo movement in Pakistan said, “When we’re all trapped in our vile quagmire of filth, who do these truth tellers think they are?. Let’s mob them, rob them and eat them for dinner. Lose whatever morals we have, let’s become even thinner. Jami Azaad I see you. I hear you. I stand with you. Always”.

Armeena too said, “A year ago, I remember randomly thinking about this. I thought it would take the next generation to tell our own Weinstein stories. I stand corrected; they’re coming out now. What a brave man”.

Whereas, Mahira Khan didn't directly name anyone in her tweet, but she did take the opportunity to highlight misuse of #MeToo movement.

On October 20, Jami in a series of tweets came forward with his #MeToo account in which he shared that the reason he has been such a strong ally of the movement is because he's also a rape survivor. He said he was raped 13-years ago by a 'powerful media person'.
