  • Environment ministry says no agreement has been signed between Namibia and Pakistan.
  • Ministry spokesperson has also rejected reports that Namibia granted Pakistan a licence to import animals.

Namibian's ministry of environment is reviewing Pakistan's application to import 10 African elephants from the country.

Ministry spokesperson Romeo Muyunda has confirmed that the department is considering Pakistan's request. Muyunda further said that no agreement has yet been made between the two countries, The Namibian reported. He also rejected reports that Namibia granted Pakistan a licence to import the animals.

"The application is not yet processed, so the insinuation of permits having been issued from Namibia is not true,” he said. The spokesperson added that in reviewing the application, whole lot of things, international law and local law included have to be considered.
