Young gun Haider aims to bring U19 World Cup 2020 trophy to Pakistan

Attock-born Haider Ali is one of Pakistani youngsters toiling and crafting his skills at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The youngster, who is part of Pakistan’s Under-19 squad, aims to claim the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2020.

“As an opening batsman, I want to give good start to Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2019, and I am hopeful to win the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020 for Pakistan,” he said, quoted PCB.

Sharing about his experience, Haider, who is a prolific run-getter as an opening batsman, revealed that he has been working on the art of prolonging his inning. “Once an opener gets out early, the whole team gets under pressure,” said Haider.

“The experience of working with the coaches at the NCA and the U19 team has helped me in learning this art of prolonging stay at the wicket, which reflected in my performances in the Sri Lanka and South Africa tours,” he said.

The batsman did learn, as Haider finally managed to convert his starts into massive scores, scoring a 111-ball 116 against South Africa and emerging as the third highest run getter in the recently concluded series with 317 runs, which also included two fifties.
