Pakistan’s Sana Mir on verge of making history against South Africa

After a memorable win against South Africa on Monday, Pakistan’s celebrated women cricketer Sana Mir would eye to become the most successful ODI spinner in the world, as Pakistan faced off against the host in the second ODI on Thursday.

Pakistan shattered South Africa in the first ODI, thanks to Sana who claimed four wickets for eleven runs crushing the Proteas for 63 in 22.5 overs. Pakistan cruised to an easy win with 212 balls remaining – their biggest in terms of balls remaining - and eight wickets to spare.

“This is something on my radar, but more than that is Thursday’s match. If we can win it, then the result will mean more to everyone, including millions of fans following us back home,” Sana Mir said, quoted PCB.

Sana, ranked among the most popular Pakistan’s women cricketer, is presently sitting on 145 wickets and is only two wickets to move ahead of spinner Anisa Mohammed of the Windies and Lisa Sthalekar of Australia.

“Of course, if I become the most successful ODI spinner in the world, I will be delighted. Every athlete takes the field to do and achieve something special and extraordinary, something that can go down in the annals of history. So, in this background, it will be a very satisfying moment for me and I will feel humbled to become the most successful ODI spinner in the world.

“But, it will also be a great advertisement for Pakistan and women’s cricket in Pakistan. I will feel privileged if I can do anything that can help enhance the profile of women’s cricket in Pakistan and inspire next generation of cricketers. “

Pakistan have previously defeated South Africa in four ODIs, but has never won a series.
