'It’s time to become a hero' says ex-skipper as Pakistan takes on England

Pakistan much anticipated tour of England is just around the corner, and with three back to back wins in the warm-up matches, ex-captain turned cricket commentator Ramiz Raja says that it is about time for the Pakistani batsmen to stamp their authority on the cricketing world.

“If you want to establish as an international cricketing superstar, then the tour of England is of great importance to you because the entire cricketing world gets glued to the tour, their [England] media is very strong and one can become an overnight sensation if perform well there,” said Raja, at Ramiz Speaks.

The former captain stated that the Pakistani batsmen need play with a fearless approach in English conditions. “The most important thing in England is that the batsman needs to pick the line of the bowl early and play that bowl as late as possible, because if you commit early there is a chance of getting caught at the slips as the bowl swings.”

Raja further suggested that the batsmen should not overuse their wrist as conditions in England do not offer slow tracks. “It’s time to become a hero, improve your bat speed and play with positive intent against England,” he said.

Pakistan is set to play five-match ODI series against England from May 5. The squad will then kick off two warm-up World Cup games against Afghanistan on May 24 and Bangladesh on May 26, before taking on the West Indies in their first World Cup match in Nottingham on May 31.
