Speedster Wahab Riaz eyes spot in squad for World Cup

Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been enjoying a good stint with ball in the ongoing Pakistan Cup 2019 and is eager to impress selectors in order to join the Men in Green at the World Cup 2019.

“It is my priority to get selected into the World Cup squad and we have very good bowlers so I think that one can get lucky or unlucky but we should be hopeful that whoever gets selected performance for his side in the tournament,” said Wahab at the post match conference.

The speedster picked the Man of the Match awards, after his five-wicket haul allowed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat defending champions Federal Area by three wickets at the Pakistan Cup 2019 one-day tournament.

Addressing about his recent performance, the speedster said that he has been performing consistently well for the past year.  “I have played a lot of leagues for the past year or so and have taken a lot of wickets as well, so I think that I have managed the same form and fitness and have brought this into the tournament.”

Talking about the probability of finding fresh talent from the Pakistan Cup, Riaz said that the Rawalpindi pitches can help unearthing good batsmen.

“I cannot say that we can get new players from this tournament for the upcoming World Cup, but our future can be secure and grab some good batsmen for sure if we get wickets like these,” said Wahab.
