ISLAMABAD: Batting legend Javed Miandad has stressed Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selectors to minutely observe Pakistan Super League (PSL) to pick consistent performers and new potential players for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup, scheduled in May this year.

Talking to APP, he said the World Cup was around the corner and PSL was an opportunity to select players performing consistently for the 50-over grand event to be staged in England and Wales.

“The selectors have plenty of choice as too many local players are exhibiting their skills in the PSL and choosing a playing eleven for the ICC World Cup will be an easy task,” he said.

Miandad, who played in Tests and ODIs between 1975 and 1996, said PSL has always introduced good players but it must be kept in mind that Twenty20 and ODI World Cup are totally two different formats and pressure.

Speaking about spectators' thin attendance in the PSL matches, Miandad said the relevant administration and sponsors must introduce more incentives to attract crowd and entry must be made free for Pakistani workforce there. “For labour class in UAE it is very difficult to afford costly entertainment,” he said.

Miandad, who is widely known for his historic last ball big six against India in 1986 at Sharjah, said PCB must consider this proposal to bring more spectators as playing among huge crowd helps sustain pressure, most essential component to polish players.

Commenting on India's move of suspending PSL telecast and hiding Imran Khan's portrait displayed at Cricket Club of India's premises in pretext of Pulwama attack, Miandad said India must know that terrorists have no religion and the attack was a result of those atrocities their forces are commiting in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) . “Pakistan has always offered India for a peaceful resolution of the issues but Indians have always responded in negative,"he said.
