Prime Minister Imran Khan has asked the industrialists and business men to give proposals to the government to bring about improvement in the economy. A group of industrialists and businessmen called on the Prime Minister on Tuesday which, the officials stated, was the first one of the series of meetings the Premier is expected to hold with various bodies of chambers in the coming weeks and months.
Those who met with the Prime Minister were Mian Muhammad Mansha, Bashir Ali Mohammad, Ali Habib, Shahid Hussain, Khalil Sattar, Sakib Sherazi, Shahid Abdullah, Tariq Segal, Arif Habib, Musaddik Zulqurnain and Sikander Mustafa. The government side was represented by Minister for Planning & Development Khusro Bakhtiar, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi, Advisor on Finance Dr Hafeez Shaikh, Advisor on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood, Advisor on Institutional Reforms Dr Ishrat Hussain and Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi.
An official said that present state of the economy, especially slowdown of businesses, has been a source of grave concern for the Prime Minister and he wanted to take input from the industrialists and businessmen to mend the present trend.
The Primer Minister said that the government is making every effort to provide every facility to businessmen, which is important for increasing the economic activities. The government's foremost priority is to create employment opportunities which would reduce poverty, he said, adding that policy making and planning would be taken ahead effectively in the light of the proposals suggested by the business community.
The government, he said, would continue the process of consultation in the areas of economy. During the meeting, he discussed ideas and proposals for investment and revenue mobilization, institutional reforms, annual budget and other things. The Premier directed the economic team to consider seriously all the proposals presented by the business community and continue regular interaction with businessmen to increases economic activates in the country.
