Governor Punjab Chuadhry Mohammad Sarwar has supported the proposal floated by Sikh Community leaders suggesting that the Indian Sikh Pilgrims be bound to carry the US dollars with them instead of Indian rupee.
Talking to media after visiting Gurdwara Janamsathan Nankana Sahib, the Governor said the advisor on Finance and other stakeholders will decide the matter with consensus. "We are setting out target of fetching US$3 billion annual revenue by promoting religious tourism," he said, adding: "On 550th birthday of Baba Guru Nanak Dev, for first time in history, visa will be provided to ten thousand Indian and 100,000 non-Indian Sikh Pilgrims."
He announced that the residence of Sardar Bhagat Singh will also be renovated along with completion of all projects in Nankana Sahib including renovation of Railway Station before November. About Kartarpur Corridor, the Governor said, whatever India could do we will complete Kartarpur Corridor in Pakistan within time frame. "India used to blame Pakistan but after Pulwama incident we exposed India on diplomatic front before world," he said.
In the past, he said that only three thousand visas were awarded to Sikh Pilgrims but we have decided to award ten thousand visas and all institutions are making unanimous strategy to turn this proposal into reality.
Answering a question, he said that in the past, millions of rupees were spent on clean drinking water but 90 percent filtration plants are dysfunctional. We have established Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority which will provide drinking water to the people of Punjab.
He further said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is trying to establish peaceful relations with India but Indian stubbornness is obstacle. "We will keep raising the voice about Kashmir on all forums," he said.
