This is apropos a Business Recorder news item "Power crisis could resurface" carried by the newspaper yesterday. According to it, the Power Division has warned the government that power crisis can resurface in the summer in case required fuel supply is not ensured to run power plants as furnace stocks have depleted due to non-supply of fuel by local refineries. The Petroleum Division has prepared a summary for the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet on furnace oil requirement for the power sector, the news report added.
It is however quite unfortunate that power shortages continue to hit the country on account of various reasons. Not only have such shortages affected the normal life of people, these have adversely impacted country's economic growth prospects. Although the present power situation is much better than what it was in 2013 or between 2008 and 2013, a lot has to be done to forestall emergence of regular power crises.
