Delegation from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) visited at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam and met with Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, Vice Chancellor, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam at his office here on Wednesday.
While talking with the FAO delegations Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Memon, VC SAU Tandojam highlighted the role of Sindh Agriculture University in the Agriculture and Rural Development of Sindh. He further added that the SAU is catering the needs of the rural poor and empowering the youth especially male and females groups in the field of Agriculture Technology, High efficient irrigation system, Dairy technology and Food processing and preservation to cope the challenges of food security at a gross root level. he further added that the SAU has already supporting the FAO activities and establishing Sindh Agro-Ecological zones, integrated phase classification for food security and climate change and would help for future further research and development activates in the province. He added that SAU is the hub of agriculture activities and producing quality man power in the field of agriculture, agriculture engineering and livestock management and there is need to engage the graduate youth in FAO project areas for their hands-on experience and job placement.
Mina Dowlatchahi, representative and Country Head Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nationals (UNFAO) appraised the efforts of the Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam for the development of the agriculture sector and providing assistance to FAO interventions in Sindh. She further added that future possible cooperation and collaboration in promoting of agriculture sector and to improve the livelihood the FAO would sign the MoU with SAU Tandojam for close coordination and cooperation to support issues related at policy level, specific cooperation for research and development in agriculture sector, support study area and support for transfer of technology for through extension outreach program at gross root level.
She further added that UNFAO will establish coordination unit at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam to facilitate the students, small and landless farmers and faculty members for exchange and transfer of technology for socio-economic development of the country.
Farrukh Toirov, Deputy FAO Representative UNFAO appreciated and suggested possible interventions with FAO and SAU. Prof Dr Muhammad Ismail Kumbhar, Director UA & FA, brief the SAU and UNFAO mission that SAU is already working for the small farmers and conducted various extension outreach programs and developed capacity of the youth of coastal and desert area of Sindh.
