ROTTERDAM: Soymeal on the European meals and feeds market moved mostly sideways on Friday as players took a bit of a breather with many absent due to Carnival celebrations in parts of Europe and in Brazil, market sources said.
"Half of the market is not present and the other half showed not very much interest because so many were not there," one broker said.
"The sell-side is mostly bullish on stronger outside markets and export hopes while buyers were less positive with slack demand and a possible economic crisis ahead giving them a bearish feeling," one broker said.
South American soymeal was offered between unchanged and $1 a tonne up from Thursday partly following the trend in CBOT soymeal futures. Afloat Argentine high protein soymeal changed hands at $406 a tonne cif Rotterdam.
Most other products were quoted hardly changed from Thursday, mostly in line with soymeal.
March EU rapemeal changed hands at 189 euros per tonne fob lower Rhine and May/mid-July fetched 176 a tonne fob.
