Prices of important kitchen items, including pulses, flour, fruits, beverage, dates, sugar, tea, except vegetable, chicken meat, eggs have remained unchanged in retail market, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
A downward trend in price of chicken was continued in retail market as available at Rs 172 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 181 per kilogram in previous week, the survey noticed. Good size live chicken is being sold at Rs 300-320 while normal weight chicken available at Rs 250-270 in retail market. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 100 and Rs 90.
It was witnessed that the prices of pulses have remained stable as no significant change or increase was registered in retail market in the previous week. Gram flour (baisen) is available at Rs 115 per kilo. Good quality rice (sela) priced at Rs 140 per kilo, while toota rice available at Rs80 per kilo.
Similarly, Dal mash is available at Rs 110 per kilo, Dal channa at Rs 110 and Rs 95 per kilo, Dal masoor at Rs70 per kilogram, Dal green chilka being sold at Rs 100 per kilo, dhoti dal available at Rs 96 per kilo.
Likewise, white lobiya is being sold at Rs 100 per kilo, red bean available at Rs 120 per kilo. White big-size channa priced at Rs 150 per kilo and small-size available at Rs 130 per kilo in retail market. A one-kilogram moonge is being sold at Rs 120 in retail market, while Dal chilka black being sold at Rs 130 per kilogram in wholesale market.
The butchers are openly defying the official rates, charging the buyers with manifold rate in local market. According to survey, it was witnessed that some butchers have displayed official rate list, but they were not implemented by them.
The survey noticed cow meat is being sold at Rs 400 per kilogram, against the official rate of Rs 270 per kilo in retail market, while beef available at Rs700-750 per kilo in retail market.
A slight decrease in prices veggies was witnessed in retail market. One-kilogram ginger is being sold at Rs 200 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 250 per kilogram in the previous week. Garlic is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram, onion available at Rs 30 per kilogram against the price of Rs 40 in last week, while tomatoes are being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg, which was selling at Rs 30-40 per kilo in last week.
Price of peas has decreased in retail market as available at Rs 150 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 200 per kilo in previous week. Cabbage price varies between Rs 30 per kilo against the rate of Rs 40 per kilogram in last week.
Price of cucumber went down at Rs 20 per kilogram from Rs 40 per kg. Cauliflower is sold at Rs 50 per kg by various retailers while apple gourd, bottle gourd and ridge gourd prices range between Rs 40 and Rs 50 per kg.
The price of per kg lady finger in off season is tagged at Rs80, while capsicum is being sold at Rs 60-80 per kg. Arvi is being sold at Rs 40-50 per kg.
Fresh milk is being sold at Rs 110-120 per litre against the official rate of Rs 90 per litre while yogurt available at Rs 110-120 per kilo against official rate of Rs80 per kilo in local market.
Fruit is staple food, whose demand has increased in the holy month of Ramazan, but the prices of the fruits are beyond the purchasing power of the common as it touched new heights in the holy month.
Red colour Chinese apple is available at Rs 250 and Rs 300 per kilogram; light green colour apples are available at Rs 150-180 per kilogram. Price of banana almost doubled in retail market as available at Rs 120 and Rs 150.
Price of five kilogram melon has increased at Rs 250 from Rs 150/- (five kilogram) in retail market, while water melon at Rs 50-60 per piece, peach is being sold at Rs 150 per kilo, mangoes are being available at Rs 150-200 per kilogram.
