Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend during this week against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey observed reduction in prices of onions, potatoes and tomatoes as all of the three major vegetables are available at Rs 100 per 5 kg, Rs 110 per 5 kg and Rs 120 per 5 kg respectively in wholesales market while in retail market they are being sold at Rs 30-35 per kg.
Garlic prices remained stable as local garlic was available at Rs 230 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg, Quetta garlic at Rs 370 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 90 per kg, while Chinese garlic price at Rs 450 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 130 per kg. Ginger price went up from Rs 600 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 160-175 per kg. Lemon price remained stable at Rs 1,200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 280 per kg.
Capsicum price increased from Rs 150 per 5kg in wholesale market to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, peas price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 600 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 150 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, taro (arvi) price remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg, carrot price was also stable at Rs 150 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 40 per kg.
Bean price went up from Rs 220 per 5kg to Rs 300 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, okra price further went down from Rs 240 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 60 per kg, price of ridge gourd (tori) went down from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg against Rs 60-70 per kg. Turnip price went down from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, price of Maroo kadu further went up from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50-55 per kg against Rs 35 per kg, cauliflower price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg and cabbage price went up from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 35 per kg.
Brinjal price went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 180 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 40-35 per kg, while cucumber price went up from Rs 160 per 5kg to Rs 260 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 45 per kg.
No significant changes were observed in the prices of all the nonperishable items especially pulses, cooking oil, spices and other kitchen specific items as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 170 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 100 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Live chicken price in wholesales market remained stable at Rs 5,500 per 40kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 160 per kg, and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 280 per kg.
The eggs prices in wholesale market remained stable at Rs 84 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 92-95 per dozen. Beef was being sold at Rs 500 per kg and mutton at Rs 950 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed no significant changes as good quality local banana was available at Rs 170 per dozen, normal quality in the range of Rs 100-120 per dozen and Indian banana at Rs 230 per dozen. Good quality guava was available at Rs 90 per kg and its normal quality was available in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg.
Cherry was available at Rs 350 per kg and Chinese pear was being sold at Rs 220 per kg against Rs 200 per kg. Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 110 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kalu apple at Rs 170 per kg, Iranian Kala Kalu apple at Rs 180 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg and Ambari apple at Rs 90 per kg. While Chinese and other imported apples were still being sold in the range of Rs 300-320 per kg. Melon was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, watermelon at Rs 20-25 per kg, white melon at Rs 40 per kg, loquat at Rs 90 per kg and various qualities of peach were available at Rs 80 to Rs 130 per kg. Mango was available in the range of Rs 100-150 per kg against Rs 150-220 per kg, plump at Rs 180 per kg against Rs 200 per kg, papaya at Rs 170 per kg, while good quality Pakistani dates were available at Rs 130 per kg and Iranian dates at Rs 180 per kg.
