Two petitions have been filed in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday to seek disqualification of Sindh ministers Nasir Hussain Shah and Manzoor Wassan on the ground that they are Iqama holders. Mohammad Zubair Jatoi filed a constitutional petition against the minister Nasir Shah and Mir Punnal Talpur filed petition against Manzoor Wassan in the SHC and made Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and others respondents.
The petitioners also want the high court to bar said two provincial ministers from contesting next election because of misdeclaration they made in their previous nominations papers for 2013 general elections. The petitioner Jatoi stated that Nasir Hussain Shah declared himself associated with the agriculture sector in his nomination papers filed for contesting a provincial assembly seat in 2013 general elections. He further said that Shah possessed iqama of a job in United Arab Emirates (UAE) since 2009. Hence, he pleaded that Nasir Shah be declared disqualified as he neither remained ameen nor sadiq because of not declaring the iqama in his nomination papers. Jatoi prayed Shah should be stripped of all the privileges he has been enjoying as a provincial minister. He wants SHC to restrain Nasir Shah from contesting forthcoming general elections and from holding any other public office for life. A two-member bench of SHC will hear the case.
The petitioner Mir Punnal Talpur stated that Manzoor Wassan has been holding iqama of job in Dubai and owning 25% shares of the company but he had not mentioned those facts in the nomination papers submitted for a provincial legislature seat in general elections 2013. Therefore, he sought disqualification of Wassan who, according to him, has remained neither ameen nor sadiq. He also prayed that Wassan be stripped of all the privileges he has been enjoying as a provincial minister and he be bared from contesting forthcoming general elections and from holding any other public office for life. A two-member bench of SHC will hear the case. It may be recalled SHC is already hearing a petition seeking disqualification of Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sail when the court was moved last week against him for being an iqama holder.
